PLEASE...NO FALSE TEETH!!!
How could I forget this one? While thinking back to my neighborhood as a kid, I recalled a story told to me "second-hand", mind you, but from a "reliable source". Here it is. Catty-corner to the right and across the street from my house, was a family with an ever-present Black Cat and the parents had 4 kids. Two boys and two girls. The youngest boy was about 5 when he was crying outdoors in the summer. Across the street was a rather colorful neighbor (whose son looked like a bearded John Lennon). Well, she was barefoot and walking outside wearing a summer dress when the little kid across the street started wailing in front of his parent's house. So, as the small kid's brother (my "reliable source") told me, my neighbor two doors to the right from my house walked over and said, "Well now, what's all this crying about?" The kid responded through sobs: "My mom won't give me any candy! Waaahhhhh!!!" The neighbor then reacts. "Well good for her! Because you want to see what candy did for me?" At this point she removes her set of false teeth and holds it out to the traumatized kid who quickly ran screaming into the house. The neighbor, put her teeth back in and promptly walked back inside her house, presumably to squeeze some fresh Poligrip on her set of dentures! To the best of my knowledge the affected kid still went out for "Trick or Treat". But, geez!! What a wacky event!!!...

Slightly different subject. I've fielded some e-mails about "Friday Movie Suggestion Night" and the answer is YES! Suggestions are definitely welcomed. That's what keeps it FUN! Another hard night to sleep caught me channel surfing when I noticed a recent movie I suggested (and a personal favorite)--"The Horse Whisperer". For the first time in years, I stayed up until 5 a.m. So, suggest away because I have written in November's schedule in lead pencil only. Sure, we can change it up! This weekend, it's time to laugh. The floor is yours on last weeks film or whatever crosses your mind...

So odd, Michael. That story reminded me the guy who lived across from me when I was growing up.
I knew him FOR YEARS. We hung out together. He played a mean harmonica. One day when we were Seniors in high school, he pulled out his teeth. It TOTALLY freaked me out!
Went to the movies this weekend and saw CAPOTE. It was amazing. Don't miss it.
Rented DEATH ON THE NILE. It was pretty bad, but I wanted to see it because I'm still in my Egyptian phase!
Last Girl On Earth
you have a schedule? me too! I wake up, put on coffee, go to bathroom and think about what I can write about...
LOL!!!
Now, that must have been something that kid will NEVER forget...lol
Creepy.
Nothing like a little trauma to a kid to set the record straight and it lasts just about as long as it take them to get back to their mom...lol Great story though. I can just see those teeth coming out and being shoved at a screaming kid.
Hope you have a great day Michael, keep smiling so everyone wonders just what you have been up to.
I love the movie Amalie. French subtitles but very good. Your false teeth story reminds me of one Cathy tells. Her uncle Bob used to say close your eyes and put out your hand and I'll give you a treat. Sometimes it was a quarter or a piece of candy. But on more than one occasion it was his false teeth. That's why they still refer to him as the late great Uncle wonderful.
I hated The Horse Wisperer because it was SO different from the book. I have to learn to seperate the two, because if I would have never read the book, I would have liked the movie more. Do you ever have trouble doing that?
creepy, yes. movie suggestion- i'll get back to you on that.
She wasn't odd, she was a smart lady! Haha! She got the crying kid to go inside and didn't have to hear the bellows anymore. Hahaha! Lois Lane
He ignored the warning.. how I am not surprised?
What a story! Hilarious!
I have never seen "The Horse Whisperer". I need to though.
I can't watch any sad animal movies, instead I'd watch something like Braveheart or Saving Private Ryan, where people blow to bits - good stuff!! lol ;p
Last Girl: I am laughing over your "Egyptian Phase". Just don't wear any burkas around the apartment. Wait!...That might be a funny way to greet Last Guy when he walks in from work!! Thanks for the note on Capote. I'll have to see it!! Never saw Death on the Nile.
Denny: I set up my Mr. Coffee the night before, so when I walk to the kitchen I just flip a switch. Then it's juice, a banana and Special K. I am currently doing stories before midnight and posting after. Martha Stewart needs to have me on her show just to see how cool my method is for throwing out the old coffee grounds! Hey! It couldn't hurt her ratings. I may send her a card to suggest!!
Christa: I hope he isn't still in analysis over that. As Woody Allen once said, "I'm giving my therapist one more year, then I'm calling the lawyers"!!
Always Victoria: That would make a great Ed Wood movie, wouldn't it?
Lois: Somehow I can't see you with false teeth, but you would have cracked up if you witnessed this, I'm sure!!!
Martini love: This was a very unpredictable lady. But she was a hoot! (wink, wink).
Storm: I caught many things from the Redford character's lines about life's complexities that I missed even after seeing it 5 or 6 times since it came out. A heartwarming film, especially if you love horses, as I do.
Miss Vicki: Annemarie from Animal Planet Rescue had a special edition last night (I have a mild crush on her) where she went back to the first case she ever had 9 years ago. It had a very happy ending. After news on CNN I've had enough of the violence. But Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon is cool. I admire Tom Hanks too for all he's done for veterans!!
Bud: I was cracking up so much, I lost my place in the responses! "Uncle Wonderful"!! God, if that doesn't scar you for life, you're doing alright. Remember Woody Allen's movie where he talks about "Joey Nickle"? I wrote your suggestion and Last Girl's down too. I'll have to include new releases as well. Great ideas!!!
Rhein: Yeah, I'm very informal about movies so suggest away anytime!
Teresa: See? I'm the opposite. Never read the book. Sorry the movie disappointed. I did read "The Graduate" after I saw the movie but prefered the movie as one of my favorites. Dustin Hoffman is amazing. Plus the music made it all connect emotionally--thanks to Simon & Garfunkle!
I had a neighbor with a false nose across the street from me. That was just sad. She was a lovely lady and it was a difficult thing to have such a frightening facial feature that all the neighborhood kids would have to dare each other to visit her over.
LOL i remember my great uncle used to take out his teeth and put them on the table used to freak us out.
Here's a movie suggestion, Michael. The Coca-cola Kid. It's quirky and many people don't like it but I like the philosophy behind it and the soundtrack is interesting. Warning--there is some nudity.
LOL, I made a reference to my teeth in my post today :D
My mother used to take hers out at night and we'd see them in the jar in the bathroom, next to her wig on the wigstand. Freaky!
I recently saw The Skeleton Key and thought it was pretty bizarre. Would be good for a Halloween type movie as it kind of sets your teeth on edge :=D
Keri: OMG! And with Halloween just around the corner!
Pink Lady: I once used the restroom to wash my hands for lunch at my late Grandma's house and she had her choppers soaking in "Polident". I freaked out and decided not to eat anything. Scared the HELL out of me!!
Utenzi: We are largely an R-rated group, so nudity is cool with me. I'll add it to the list which is growing! I checked out the Library tonight, as DVD's arrive weekly, if not daily and was surprised to find new films and a few older ones. But it was spotty. Thanks!
Carolyn: I have been so self-consumed with projects that the whole Halloween theme just went past me. I'll be sure to suggest something to "sink your teeth into" though. LOL about the display jar!!
