MOONSTRUCK!
___
Confession: I have always loved Cher! What's not to love? And this movie is my 'tip of the hat' to Halloween! Furthermore, I've wanted to post this for "Friday Movie Suggestion Night" since the middle of last year!! It's about time, right? I have a question for all of you (and you know who you are--legions of movie lovers lurking out there). How many times have you layed down at night to sleep and recalled that scene where Nicholas Cage tells Cher that he's in love with her. She pauses and then slaps the hell out him and yells: "SNAP OUT OF IT!" I have laughed so hard at this one scene, it's worth renting the entire movie over it! Cher is so versatile. She can handle rock and roll, is a consummate actress, has the smarts---as Meryl Streep says--to actually "run a movie studio"--and can do Comedy and Drama with ANY actor. If you don't believe me, name one out loud. See? Not many actors can claim this. Cher can. Enough already! Here's the plot:
_______
Loretta Castorini (Cher), a Brooklyn bookkeeper in her late 30s (whose husband died several years earlier in a bus accident) decides it's time to get married again. Along comes Johnny Cammareri (are these names killing you yet?). Loretta is convinced her first marriage was "a curse". Why? Because she and her husband had gotten married at City Hall! Don't get the connection? Don't worry, I don't either. But Loretta is determined "to do things right". She tells her Mom, Rose, that she's not really in love with Johnny. The advice from the Mother: "Good. When you love them, they drive you crazy, 'cause they know they can." Wasn't THAT helpful? Well, there's a reason for Rose having an attitude. She suspects that her husband, Cosmo, (THESE NAMES!) is cheating on her. Meanwhile, Loretta is convinced that marrying Johnny is the safe and sure thing to do - until she meets his estranged younger brother Ronny, who tends the ovens in a neighborhood bakery. Ronny is a contrast to Johnny. (Re-read that last line out loud if you need a laugh). Johnny is a 'Clark Kent' compared to Ronny--a moody 'James Dean' who is passionate. That's just enough details of this film to whet your appetite. So let's meet the cast!

Greeneyes
Hey Michael, great movie pick. I have seen it a few times. I think I will take up the suggestion and go rent it. It has been a while since I have seen it. Take care, cheers.
Now that is a good one.
I love Cher also, have since I was about 13 years old. I love her singing and love her movies. I just think she is the greatest. I don't know how this movie has gotten by me without me seeing it but I will be going to rent it. Thanks.
Haha! I thought you quit blogging a little while ago! Good to see you (back) online.
This sounds like a great movie! You've made me realize that I almost never watch movies, not in the theater or on video. I don't know why that is. Maybe I'll rent this one soon...
Thanks Michael,
Cher is one of the greats and it is nice to hear that she got best actor for this movie.
She should be in more films but today there seems to be more films that star the special effects more than the actors.
As much as I enjoy the magic of special effects I think that there should be a good story supported by great acting by people.
And the beat goes on!
Glenn Bishop
Greeneyes: lol! And she really belts Nick too, doesn't she? I read where Cher said that in order to pull off that scene and not laugh, she was biting the insides of her cheek! I love her humor!!!
Renae: Of course I am too, as I always watch what I suggest here. But I need a good laugh (don't we all?)!!!
D-Man: Yes, Cher is so cool.
Mouse: Hey, nice to hear from you! You will LOVE this one! And funny as hell too!!!! Enjoy!
Diana: Oh, yeah! Do so because laughter is great medicine!!!!
Glenn: I blame this sad reality on what Sela Ward once called "the flavor of the month club" in modeling. If a woman is some teen age babe or not too far removed--they get the part. But even when actresses look fabulous at any age (like Susan Sranadon, Goldie Hawn, Cher, Mary McDonald and endless others) and get passed over that is just high school mean. This lady looks great and she has the talent. I too hope we see more of her.
It's been years since I saw this movie - I'll have to rent it again soon.
I really loved this movie a lot!
Knitti-me: It's always fun!
Bud: I agree! I'm having a look at it tonight too.
Sweety: No, still very pulled back until things settle (whenever the Gods decide that will be). I'm keeping FMSN and "The Interview" active with a few updates on my NEWS and COMING SOON Sections. That's all I have time for at the moment.
Believe it or not, I saw Moonstruck for the first time about 6 months ago at a friends house. It is a fun movie. I wished I'd seen earlier but better late than never.
You're right about Cher. I'm not a huge fan of hers but when I think of all of the hits in music, The Sonny and Cher Show, and the great movie rolls she played over the years, I can't help but admire her talent.
Thanks for reminding me of that.
Michael,
I must say I have enjoyed the movie "Moonstruck". Cher in her movies and also her TV shows (music and comedy)of Sonny & Cher were alway such a delight; bringing with it the laughter that warms one's heart and soul.
Barbara Ann
Thanks for dropping by my blog. This is one of those movies that I intend to watch someday. It seems though as someday gets pushed to the back burner a lot.
Cher is way over due for another Movie :)
Hey Michael, thanks for stopping by my blog. I haven't seen this movie in years....Cher is great, for some reason I am now singing "If I Could Turn Back Time" :)
"Snap out of it!" A classic all-time movie quote. Thanks for your readership, MM.
thank you for your comment and your kind words. i feel honored to be on your list. i will be back to read more..... :-)
FINALLY you get my favorite movie out here, M. :) I watched it last week again. It pretty much lives in my mini-DVD player that I have bedside. One of my all-time favorites for so many reasons... Where to begin? The music, the actors... How about that John Mahoney or Olympia Dukakis or Feodor Chaliapin who absolutely stole every scene he was in??? *sigh*
Smooches to you my friend. I hope you are doing well in your resettling. I miss our email chats!
I completely agree with your choice, this is a fantastic film! Will have to rent it now to see it again!
Hey Michael,
Thanks for dropping by my blog & for the link as well..
I love Cher, I haven't watched this movie in a long time though-I would love to see her acting again.
(There really is no one like her..)
Take Care
I'm surprised you didn't go with Witches of Eastwick for Halloween, but I actually like Moonstruck better, so that's good.
I haven't watched this movie before (does that make me a bad person? lol).
I will take your suggestion and rent this movie soon!
Thanks!
You know until i read your post i never realised i'd never watched that movie.I always thought i has seen it.I don't have a day off until sunday now,but maybe i'll try and get it for then.
Hey Michael, I got the job!
tone of my favourite films! loved the way Cher slapped Nicholas Cage
Yes, you can pick 'em! LOL! I loved that movie and it definately IS worth a re-watch. "If I Could Turn Back Time"... hey, thanks to DVD's, we can! ;D
I LOVE Moonstruck! So charming, fun and downright hilarious. Great choice!!!
Doug: Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, I'm a certified fan of Cher!
Barbara Ann: Very versatile, I agree!!
Karin: Make someday today! I know you will love it!!!! :)
Heidi: That is so true! I recently saw her on "Larry King Live" with a US Army General (Ret.) and together they are trying very hard to ensure that the soldiers' helmets be refitted with a non-concussion pad and net. She's very cool!
Dottie: That's interesting. Because I consider that song one of the best produced Pop songs ever!
Plantation: Exactly! When I watched it a couple of nights ago, I totally forgot that Cher wallops Nick Cage not once...but TWICE! Hilarious scene!
Manda: PLease feel welcome to stop by anytime! Thanks!!
Keri: Thanks! Yeah, we'll catch up soon. I hope the relay for Cancer went well. Still not settled on this end...a frustrating saga. But it will work out.
Claire: Thanks so much!!:)
Michele3: Hey! I'm happy to read that so many have not seen this one in a while. Very timely to "dust it off"!!!
GW: With all that's been going on here, believe it or not, that never even crossed my mind. But I'm glad you liked this one a bunch!!
Crazy in colorado: Let me know what you think! I hope you love it!!!
Hellbunny: A good Sunday flick!!!
Knitti-Me: I saw that and commented earlier! THat was a very cool transition! WOW! I really wish you well and hope you are much happier with the new gig!
Karma: While I find that scene hysterical too, I hope I'm never on the receiving end of that wallop! :)
Carolyn: And under the knife I guess too. But as Robert Redford said: Why bother, eh? lol!
Lisa B!: Hope this tickles your funny bone!
OMG!!
This is a PRICELESS movie!
First, I dig Cher...Witches of Eastwick to Mermaids, to Moonstruck...she is so very multi-talented. I also just adore Nick Cage! Have you ever seen his A&E Bio?
Secondly, (and this is nothing I am proud of lol)...why is it when I pulled that 'SNAP OUT OF IT' move, the guy didnt think it was that funny??? Maybe I should have made him watch the movie first! (giggle)
Kathleen
I loved this movie.
My husband doesn't like Cher, but he liked this movie too. And that scene and line are our favorite too!
Yes, it is a great movie, I agree, but I haven't seen in a long time, so it's about time I do again! Thanks for the link Michael. You have a very wonderful website!
I've actually never seen this movie (*hangs head in shame*) but I do know of the scene you're talking about with Cher and Nicholas Cage - FUNNY! I'll have to go rent it now - now that I know from what movie that scene came from! (thank you!)
Hi Michael, Thanks for coming over and your kind comment.
I adore Cher - a consummate actress, singer and allround entertainer. I saw her live show when she was in Australia last year and believe, she was as good as ever!
Moonstruck is a great movie, but I also loved Witches of Eastwick. Hilarious!
Enjoy what's left of the weekend.
Robyn
I havent seen this movie in ages, but I remember it being a huge success. Cher was such the leading lady back then. What happened?
Who hasn't wanted to slap Nicholas Cage at some point or another?
Thanks for linking me!
Kathleen: Be careful! :) If your friend is still in the picture, try showing him the DVD! Hopefully this will "smooth things over". lol! No, I missed the Bio but maybe I can catch it on DVD as well. Cage is very interesting!
Sylvana: lol! Cher isn't for everybody. But I have to smile when I recall a USA Today poll many years ago that found 80% of the respondents may or may not agree with all of Cher's views, but they felt she was 100% honest when asked to observe on anything. Thanks for the note!
Erica: My pleasure! And hope to be able to resume my full time Blogger schedule by New Years!
Fallen Angel: I'm not at all into battery, but that scene was SO FUNNY! I hope you enjoy!!!
Robyn: That must have been a terrific show. I've yet to see Miss Cher. But hope I get a chance. She is so cool!
Janet: Not quite sure what you mean about "What happened?" But I saw her recently on "Larry King Live" and she was stunning and quite effective in communicating her concerns about our troops. lol!
Teri: Hmmm? Well, I wouldn't want to slap anybody but lol!!!
this is one of my favourite movies , nice choice. My one for tomorrow will be Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The book is good too.
xx
shona
I've always been a Cher fan. This was one of best movies!
Have a good week!
Slap Me Happy: I just saw Sandra in "The Lake House". Great film for the romantc in all of us. lol!
Monica: lol! Can you imagine spending a full day just hanging out with Cher? Just sitting cross-legged on the floor drinking tea and rapping about anything and everything would be so FUN! What a career!
All I can say is 41 comments in your blog. It must be Magic!
Glenn Bishop
Glenn: I believe in Magic! Yeah, quite a surprise here! I'll drop by to see what's new on your end!
i have to agree, that is a great part, and now you've given me an idea, i think i will go around and slap people, then tell them to snap out of it..think it'l work?
Michael: Thanks for the visit and the kind words. I "lurve" Moonstruck, an all-time fav! Gotta love grandpa, "Somebody tell a joke!" It's soooo the NYC, Italian family personified! Too funny. --rosa
Suziebadoozie: Be careful! I was serious when I said that I forgot Cher hit Nick twice. What's hysterical is that she was biting the insides of her cheek trying not to laugh. But MAN, he survived a wallop!!! Many men deserve it, but lol!!!
Rosa: I was visiting my Mom across town and she watched it. She kept looking at me hanging over the chair laughing out of control and asking "What? WHAT!!!" The late Vincent Gardenia with that line: "I don't want to talk about it". And that hair style on Danny Aiello! Oh, God this was funny! lol!!!
I agree, Cher is the don! People forget just what a talented actress she is - I loved her in Moonstruck, Mask and of course, The Witches of Eastwick.
Gotta love Cher x x
Wondy: I adore her! She would be such a BLAST to hang with for a day!!!
