Saturday evening's Vh1 "Unplugged" was hugely enjoyable with Bon Jovi in an intimate setting and all-acoustic set that began with "Livin' on a Prayer". LeAnn Rimes sang a powerful duet on “Till We Ain’t Strangers Anymore.” In support of their new CD "Lost Highway", Tyson Ritter and guitarist Nick Wheeler from Destin, Florida's "All American Rejects" joined the band on "It's My Life", "Stranger" and a surprisingly fresh "Hallelujah". Jon said he first caught the song performed in a New Jersey night club and nodded to a friend said,"Now, this is a hit". There was some self deprecating laughter at this when he learned that the late Leonard Buckley/ Leonard Cohen classic had been written years earlier. Other gems included "We Got It Going On". "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "(You Wan't to) Make a Memory" rounded out a tight performance without the rock arena environment for a pleasant change of pace. All Before the show I caught the singer's comments in the media that, "They'll be strings, they'll be the violin girl that I use in my side projects, the pedal-steel guy, but also another guitar player (and) another keyboard player." This show was great fun for me. It was simply over too soon.

Renae: I'd say you're caught up on my adventures. I'll have to stop by! :)
Ah ha, Jovi is in my top four bands to see whenever they come near me. Sadly, it's been four years for me, but hopefully with the new album I hope to get soon, I won't have to wait that much longer.
I had a scheduled phone call during the airing of this, but I taped it. Can't wait to watch it this coming weekend!
Love MTV Unplugged. Now we need a certain Aussie rocker on there some day, eh Michael? :-)
Ally
Ally: Absolutely! Rick would be great on "Unplugged"!!
Oh. My. Gosh. I'm the biggest Bon Jovi nerd there is. I've been a fan since the beginning, and have seen them in concert 3 times. Thanks for sharing this!
I miss listening to grown folk music. I need to get back into it. earth wind and fire will be here in town to give a FREE concert. I need to get a babysitter and go have some grown folks time wouldn't you say so :)
p.s. I LOVE the pic of lisa on the comments sleeping! i need to do that more often too! :)
I usually don't like all the noise and confusion that goes along with live music, Michael, but I'd have made an exception for that evening. I'd most certainly have watched it on VH1. I'll check the listings and see if they're gonna show it again.
I love Bon Jovi.
I caught this show by pure accident...I came in while they were lounging up "You Give Love A Bad Name" and LOVED it!! Then I went out & bought their new cd. They're such a talented bunch of guys!! :)
I watched most of the Unplugged performance the other night....they still sound great after all these years! I remember obsessing over Bon Jovi when I was in 5TH GRADE. LMAO
I am just off to the Bishop of Ely's garden party, I suspect more sedate music will be played there, maybe choral singers from the cathedral.
OMG Jon Bon Jovi is the HOTNESS.
I've been so disappointed in Richie since he & Heather split and he was hanging out with Denise Richards. Even though I don't know the back story I just... I dunno.
Lisa: You Rock! 3 times!!! I'd say you're a fan!
Tanyetta: I was in Las Vegas when it was announced Earth, Wind & Fire was coming to the Luxor--the pyramid-shaped building this summer. An awesome band!
Utenzi: I've read that they may add some additional footage. That would be nice!
Katie: He's a great all-around singer/composer/musician--I agree!
Dawn: I respect any band that as Jon put it goes "from the basement to the bars then to the stage". They've really earned it!
Ellee: If by some chance they slip in the "Lost Highway" CD let us know! :)
Patti_Cake: I don't follow that stuff much either, but understand the band is tight and has suffered some personal losses together.
I love these guys, ever since they came out when I was in junior high (I can't believe it's been that long). They have such charismatic personalities and i love that they're doing so much for charities and underpriveleged children.
I caught the last part of the show but I think it's re-airing so I'll definately catch the entire show again! Can't get enough Bon Jovi :)
They did a Hallelujah cover? I shall check it out.
John Cale's cover is still my favourite. Although Buckley's is also great. Hell, I even like Leonard Cohen's retake.
Becky: That's something new that I learned. How cool. Thanks!
D-Man: Yes, it was well done. Hope you can check it out.
Carolyn: Glad you'll be able to see it afterall!
I know it's downright un Jerseyan of me to admit this, but I'm not nearly as big of fan of Bon Jovi as I once was. I loved his hair band days, but in the past decade or so, I just can't get into his music. If I said that too loudly in some parts of NJ though (he's from just a few towns over), I'd be slaughtered! LOL
Mmmm, Bon Jovi ... I have long been a fan !!
Wish I had've caught that Vh1 ... must look to see whether we will get it !!
Hope all is well in your world, Michael.
Take care, Meow
Janet: Your secret is safe with me!
Meow! I too hope you can get a look at this show. It was excellent!!
