FUN GUITARIST PROFILE: BRUCE KULICK!
>L-R: Bruce Kulick Lead Guitars, Mel Schacher, Bass;
After leaving KISS, Bruce formed UNION with John Corabi in 1997, who would go on to release three albums between 1998 and 2000 before going on hiatus. Bruce and John teamed up with Eric Singer and Karl Cochran in the Eric Singer Project (E.S.P.), releasing an album in 1998, while Bruce kept his connection to KISS with contributions to 1998's Psycho Circus album, the Detroit Rock City soundtrack in 1999, and, more recently, solo efforts from Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, he remains busy year-round.
In early 2001, Bruce released "Audio Dog"--his solo CD, which was followed in 2003 with "Transformer". Then in 2001, a personal invitation from Grand Funk Railroad drummer Don Brewer to join as lead guitarist to replace original founding member Mark Farner coincided with the addition of Max Carl from .38 Special to replace Mark on vocals and harmonica. The reinvigorated Grand Funk has a robust summer 2007' Tour underway (dates appear below). And while Bruce says there isn't too much room to stray from the band's original opening musical statements made standard and known worldwide, for example, on such hits as "We're An American Band", his "Star Spangled Banner" from the KISS "Alive III" CD often finds its way on the set list. Patti: I have always admired independent musicians who have managed to stay busy and keep the revenue flowing.
Mar: Thanks for the visit! I honestly can't recall with so many good friends who have shuttered their sites. Let me have a look-sie! Grand Funk is but another band still writing fresh material. They have suffered quite a bit from being pidgeon-holed as a "Classic Rock Legend" of yester-year. This becomes sad when a good amount of new music that is quite good is being ignored.
Shona: I saw a photo of Ace back stage at a Rick Springfield concert. I honestly didn't recognize him until I was interviewed by a Missouri radio station back in December with our project for Sahara and all I could do was say "Really?" I still enjoy KISS! Who could forget: "I wanna rock and roll all night/ and party every day!"
Mar: I've Linked you back! Thanks for the heads up!:)
Somehow I never paid much attention to these guys. There some huge gaps in my rock cultural training.
Bud: I love the guys and have seen them 3 times. They started rehearsing in a Flint, Michigan warehouse and burst on the scene by volunteering to perform a free gig before 300,000 at the Atlanta Pop Festival. Their new material today is phenomenal!
One comment about GFRR I'd like to add: When you're at one of their shows, whatever you go in worried about personally, you come out feeling lighter about. It's just damn good fun!
