MEET TREVOR TREDAWAY- HE NEEDS US!
_____
For those of you just joining us this morning, I had blogged on 05/12/08 about another new friend of mine named Gunner Gillespie who is 7. Both Gunner and Trevor love trains. And they are both fun, energetic, vivacious little boys who deserve the chance to grow up and live full, rich lives. But there's an obstacle that is threatening their lives and it is cancer of the brain stem. Now before some of you turn away, please give me a chance and read on! This form of cancer is so brutal and unforgiving, that I feel compelled to "step in the arena and draw my sword" --so to speak--to stand with these children. I want you to join me and it won't cost you anything but it will fill your heart with Love. And no one can tell me that the world doesn't need this more than ever. _____
"We, me especially, have really been struggling with the fact that the doctors want to start Trevor on a 3rd chemo drug with no known benefits in children. It is used to prolong life in adults with very aggressive brain tumors. The data on its effectiveness in children will not be available for 1-2 more years. Trevor is very sensitive to medications: i.e: after his first chemo treatment, his jaw pain was so severe that he couldn't swallow; he hallucinated after taking Ativan; all of the nausea and vomiting. Frankly, chemo just scares me. It is the only option other than radiation. Dr. Murray told us what will, not could, happen if we have to radiate. He said that there is an almost a 100% guarantee that Trevor will suffer from some form of retardation. That is not an option for him.The tumor remains stable, BUT there is an area of the tumor that is concerning to the doctors. It looks as if part of the tumor could be a little bigger. Also, the "spots" on his spine are confirmed tumors. Well, as confirmed as can be without doing a biopsy of his spine. The tumors on his spine have not changed since January. So, the brain tumor metastasized into his spine. They treat tumors of the spine with the same chemo drugs as they do the brain. This has never been verbalized until today, but Trevor basically has brain and spine cancer._____
"The response from the community has been completely overwhelming. I guess the greatest thanks will occur when I can write that 'Trevor is cured', which will happen. Until then, all I can say is Thank you so much to everyone participating in any type of event for the Triumph for Trevor."Closing thought from Michael: When I was Trevor's age, I spent two weeks in a hospital intensive care unit and my life was saved. The following year at age 8, a bicycle accident sent me right back into that same hospital, and by the Grace of God, I am here this morning in Arizona writing to you as an adult. I was lucky. I had a chance. And now, it is time for Trevor to have that same kind of chance. Just as I did with Gunner, I have a good idea of how we can help Trevor and his family. First and foremost, I feel certain that I can say that prayers are welcomed and encouraged. For those of you who don't pray, meditations, good vibes and healthy positive thoughts and shout-outs are also welcomed. Caringbridge, a non-profit organization has enabled the families of these two fine young boys, Trevor and Gunner to communicate with and keep each of us informed who care to offer Love and Supportiveness through their Journal at: http://caringbridge.org.

May God bless them. It could just as easily be my sweet Emmy in the same situation, if not for the grace of God.
I believe they can WIN also Michael. I'm sure, NO I KNOW, there is something I will spend money on today that I don't really need - I have a little box on my desk - I call it my "BS dollar box" - lately I've been putting the money I save from cutting back on stupid stuff - lattes and magazines and such- in that box. When it adds up a bit more I shall send it on to Trevor's fund.
Children are the future and deserve all we can possibly do for them.
Hugs Michael.
It's wonderful for you to put this out there Michael!
Diane: Knowing of your deep love for children, I feel that you understand where I am coming from on this situation. lol!
dianne: I am firmly convinced a Mother's intuition is so great. Trevor has a story to tell. He's only 3. So, Todd and Melinda are helping us to reach out and share their journey. One that I believe can lead to a full life! lol, dianne!!! :)
Seamus: Well, thanks my friend. I know today is usually "Friday Movie Suggestion Night", but priorities must prevail. Thanks for stopping by. Spread the word! :)

Michael,
I know Trevor and he is a wonderful kid. He does have a contagious smile and laughter. He has made a place in my heart and I have two sons, my olderst son almost died twice, so I feel like god has a something special for him. I know Trevor will beat his battle with cancer because I believe he has something special to give to all of us.

Trevor looks so lively and happy. It is a fine gesture to put this post up.
You know where my heart is on this topic, Michael. Thank you for sharing his story with everyone. I believe in the power of many hearts and prayers joined together for one purpose.
Thanks for the email! :)
I look at my babygirl and think "There but for the Grace of God Go I"... that is why I always help out children's charities. I could be in those shoes. Thank You Michael for your empathy and spreading the word.
I will certainly pray for this family , I am all teary eyed and my heart filled for them as I read your post , People need to realize that if you have your health you are lucky and to have healthy children even more blessed . I wish good thoughts and a miracle for Trevor, God send his angels to surround him and watch over him along this path ┼ ╬ ┼ .

Great post.
Cancer is a scurge that knows now barriers or discriminates due to age and must be fought at every chance and win.
Here we fork out for the Childrens hospital to keep it ahead and everyone should step up and help our future which lies in the eyes of our children
Debmc59: What a testimony of Love! Yes, having almost died twice myself, as I state, I also share your faith that Trevor will triumph! Thanks so much for visiting my site! You are always welcomed. :)
Sage: Many thanks for those kind words, my friend. I appreciate them!
jean-luc-picard: He was quite fun over the telephone. Imagine, kissing the telephone twice before handing it back to Melinda. Children are an absolute Joy!
kninnicchick: Keri, thank you! ALL: Keri was my first Guest on 'THE INTERVIEW" and she is a tireless champion on behalf of all cancer patients, and brain cancer patients particularly!
Patti: lol! Only a Mother can empathize as you have done. Maddie is such a blessing.
We have to hold up the parents like The Aldridge's, The Gillespie's and The Tredaway's who have the shock of dealing with such a devastating diagnosis. This makes me only more determined to try and do whatever I can by shining a light on this subject so that others might become involved whether near or far. We can all help!
Greeneyes: What a relief to see you here. I now understand your absence and send you (((HUGS))). ALL: Greeneyes is a long time Blog Bud as well!
Walker: You speak with words of iron my friend! Absolutely! The children are the future!! Well said. ;)
Hugs and prayers.
Prayers and hugs.
Searaphine: Much needed and definitely appreciated, I know! lol!
Between your caring writeup, his mom's words, the gorgeous photos of Trevor and his family, and last, but not least, seeing his dad signing "I love you", this entire post is overflowing with strength, love, and hope.
As a Hearing Therapist, a Healing Artist who uses much of my artwork for healing, especially for cancer, and just an everyday woman who cares, I'm sending special hugs to Trevor and his family!
(A month ago Gem and I danced to 50's and 60's music to raise funds for children afflicted with Neuroblastoma...) Keep spotlighting interviews like these Michael. You are also a "gem."
Gel: There is nothing "everyday" about you. You are an Exceptional person, and I value that you took so much time to express how much you appreciate my Blogsite. This means a great deal to me and you have made my day! lol!!!
ALL: Judging from a mass e-mail to the Gods of Media all over the country, these children deserve air time in a HUGE way. By the Grace of God, I ran into a lady who knows a newspaper executive in her church. I gave her my card with Trevor and Gunners names. Let's hope I can play a role in getting their parents interviewed. It's about the children!!!
