MY FAVORITE MALE SONGWRITER!
My two favorite male songwriters have always been Gordon Lightfoot and Kris Kristofferson. I had the Joy of meeting Gordon during my Freshman year of college when he came to perform on our campus. I have viewed this You Tube several times and this appears to have been filmed just last year in Gordon's native Canada. The "1970" reference is a bit confusing; that was the year Gordon achieved his commercial breakthrough. "If You Could Read My Mind" was also released that year. I have seen him in concert 6 times and though I remember Gordon from how he looked in the 1980's, I'm very happy he has recovered his health and is back out on the road. This is an exceptionally well written song--among the best I've ever heard in my life. Thank you, Andy Martello for teaching me how to post this! Andy is awesome (go visit his website on my Blogroll).
Enjoy your Saturday!

I grew up with Gordon Lightfoot's music pouring out of the radio.
HIs music makes you think
I like this one, but my favorite GL song is "Sundown" and "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald" is a close second.
Hope your weekend is great, Michael! :o)
Love and hugs,
Diane
I am about to go on the road to do another "all nighter" 4 hours away as I write this.
Thanks for reminding me to pack my Gordon Lightfoot CD. He was and still is one of my favorite recording artists.
If you could read my mind and sundown are classics.
Thanks for a great post Michael and I hope you have a great weekend!

This is such a great song - thanks for sharing it. Have you ever heard Olivia Newton-John's version? It's very well done! Have a great weekend!
He sounds great! I always associate him with the Edmund Fitzgerald--at the shipwreck museum in the old coast guard station at Whitefish Point, they play his song over and over again... "does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the minutes into hours..."
Walker: I couldn't agree more. Don Quixote was a "mild protest" to the Vietnam War. One of my favorite CD's is "Shadows:, and I love the "Salute" CD where Gordon plays electric guitar for the first time!
Diane J: As you may know, that tragedy leads Gordon to unite with surviving family members at a dinner each year, as I understand it. He is a courageous warrior of the soul!
Glenn: Wishing you a great time on stage and only regret I am not in the audience. I hear from many that you are AWESOME! I hope everyone reading this can catch you in-person!
Heather: No, I haven't. I know Olivia recorded a CD last year in support of breast cancer awareness and that it was featured in Starbucks and other retail outlets. I have always loved that lady!
Sage: Yes, he is VERY involved with the families of the 29 victims who lost their lives. The song is so well crafted as evidenced by the line you just quoted. Gordon loves his native Canada, but I found it so heartwarming that he loves to tour in the Mid-West. His favorite haunts are Ohio and Michigan. He is still huge on college campuses. I last saw him at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dallas and he had such energy. He is back from a ruptured stomach aneurysm and several operations with 2 years off the road. HE IS BACK!!!!! I share your passion, Sage!:)
I thought you wanted to post videos of ME!
;)
ANDY: I SHALL! :D
