UPDATE ON GUNNER GILLESPIE!
7 Year-Old Gunner Gillespie Needs Our Help
_____
My gratitude to my friends Shannon and Amy Aldridge, who made one mention months ago on their Blog about a family from Benton, Kentucky whose son is facing a medical situation with cancer similar to their sweet Sahara. You may remember that last month, I wrote a full Blog about Gunner Gillespie with photos of Janna & Gus Gillespie--parents of Gunner and his sweet sister Garlynn--all featured in my post. In a short while, I'll have the pleasure of meeting The Gillespie's as they will be in my area to try a new medical therapy for Gunner. Naturally, their insurance company isn't covering the tests or the treatment--should it take place. So...
______I stand with all families who must deal with the burdensome costs of health care services that insurance companies simply do not cover. In so many cases, this debt takes years to pay off. Whatever you do, search your heart. If your heart tells you to make a donation to help The Gillespie's with the enormous costs to help Gunner move his mountain, donations can be made payable C/O The Gillespie Family at:

When one Blogs about such a subject as I do here, they run the risk of incurring critics. "Oh, there he goes again--another issue to support". That's fine. As a trained actor, I learned to thrive on rejection and it literally rolls off my back "like water on a duck"! And yet, I look back to when I was 7 and 8 years of age. On at least 3 occasions, my life was spared by physicians. I nearly died! Today, many years later, you are stuck with me, my kooky humor, adventures and even misadventures. Thank God! Each day that I wake up is a gift! Therefore, why would I not want to acknowledge this gift of life by helping to raise awareness of a bright little boy who is fighting for HIS life as I did, albeit, under different circumstances? At a church I visited Sunday, I placed Gunner's name on the prayer list. A mother-to-be and her husband spoke with me and (of course) we wound up talking for 20 minutes about Sahara Aldridge.
When the real-life Frank Serpico (the police officer played by actor Al Pacino who took down a large section of a once-corrupt New York Police force) was on a talk show late one night, he talked about a fascinating event! He gave away all his possessions and traveled across the United States hitch-hiking and ultimately wound up in Greenland. Whomever he met--in cars, at bus terminals, or at trucker cafes, he posed this question: "What is the the meaning of life to you?" Ultimately, after a nearly 2 year sojourn, Serpico had his answer: "It is to love and help one another. That's it. It's that simple". So, if you came here today hoping to find something different, YOU HAVE! Hey, let's see what we can do to help this family. I'll keep you updated. All prayers, shout-outs, good vibes, meditations, positive thoughts and energy that is loving and peaceful is welcomed for this family.

Serpico said on the meaning of life, "It is to love and help one another. That's it. It's that simple." How true...the old Golden Rule made new again. ;)
I am sure anyone who really takes the time read your blog, email with you or meet you in real life recognizes you for the angel that you are!
Morning, Angie: I agree. I need to see what you are up to with your writing!! :)
Oh, Patti! That is so nice of you. But I'm just a simple guy who tries to understand, that's all. lol!!!
Michael it is so rare to see someone who is constantly thinking of others.
I love that about you, it takes someone with a voice to get things accomplished.
I have seen Ellen Degeneris with her New Orleans fund, Rosie after 9/11 raising millions of dollars, and Oprah constantly doing things for others.
Don't ever stop caring.
My prayers for the boy and family.
How could anyone say 'oh, another issue to support'? I just don't get it. Supporting one another is just a part of being human. Thanks for the update, Michael.
A good update, Michael.
Hey this is your blog and yoou write about wha you wish to write about.
Standing by your friends when they need you is honourble.
You pst about many things so who ever saysthat or thinks that could go choke on it.
But knowing you, you would probably feel bad for them and post about it HA HA HA.
Just do your thing, that's what I believe and if others don't like it who cares.
It's talk like that which stifles people's humanity and creativity
Green Tea: I never say I eluded death but it was very close on the operating table twice at around Gunner's age and so I am at least a very lucky guy and at best I am Blessed. But then you have these qualities too, my dear! lol!
p m: Presently Gunner is collecting post cards from as many states and countries. He loves trains and you can et on his Caringbridge Train as I have! He seems like a fine young man and I look forward to meeting him along with his sister Garlynn and parents Janna and Gus. I know your prayers are appreciated and powerful!
Hey, Lisa: As a Mom, this must resonate deeply. We must wage war on this cancer full blown with all resources available now. I have promised a blog on Trevor Treadaway, who is 2. I think those of us on the outside looking in Lisa, must remain strong and diligent with our best wishes regardless of religious beliefs. This is a young man fighting with everything he has. lol!
jean-luc-picard: Thanks as always for your supportiveness!!!!
Walker: Well, you do make a point in that I have learned to avoid negative people and I surround myself with forward-thinking people who love. It seems of late that I've been blogging a lot about worthy issues; I'm just relieved so many good people like you understand. This blog can be a wonderful instrument to let good news and serious matters abound! Thanks for your spirit my friend! :)
