BLOGGER CONSIDERATIONS...
A lot of truly memorable Bloggers have closed their BLOG Pages since I opened mine in 2005. And I miss them. Recently, a Blog bud surprised me after admitting that she has weighed closing her site. It's a subject I have visited less than a handful of times, but this week I admit that it crossed my mind. In fact, I found myself laughing about "Mr. Carlin" (played by Jack Riley)--the kooky character of the patient to Psychologist Bob Hartley (Bob Newhart) in the sit-com "The Bob Newhart Show" which ran on CBS television from 1972 to 1978. I can laugh because I earned my college degree in Psychology. The Bob Newhart Show is in heavy rotation on cable television. I imagined Carlin having a session with Bob talking about his feelings associated with the prospect of closing his Blog Page! Bob would have likely asked "How do you feel about that?" and I'm quite sure they'd explore options, such as going on "Hiatus", transitioning to an irregular posting schedule, or closing comments. I have experienced this from my own visits to the sites listed on my Blogroll. The reasons for a fun blog site being closed down by my friends has included: the demands of a new marriage, parenthood, a new job, escaping a stalker, or the death of someone close. Several blog sites appear to be abandoned; they remain in existence, but little or no posts have been created. Others state on their Blog sites that they feel creatively drained. _

There are funny things about having a Blog page. One of the stands-outs (as some of you can relate) is that many long-time Bloggers do not realize after four years that my Blog Page is only one component of an entire Website! Over the weekend, I received a long-distance call from a friend who could not find Page 3 of my Photo Page. I had to explain that words "Next Page" accompanied by an arrow was actually an honest to good Click On Button. Another person asked about an Independent film I made in 2003, blogged about at least six times and even have still photos posted on Photo Page 1. I didn't find that funny, and I suspect neither would Dr. Hartley much less Andy Rooney of "60 Minutes". But to be fair, not everyone has one of my cards which has my photo, title and my Website (www.michaelmanning.tv) on it. My Pastor of 22 years loves to scan my News Page daily. Another friend three days ago admitted that she was one of my "Lurkers"-which ended in laughter! (Andy Rooney would have laughed too!). A local broadcasting colleague asked if I had a Reel Page (she knows better, I mean a fellow journalist? Please). I honestly couldn't tell you without a straw poll if my About Page is viewed at all. I don't have a separate meter on it, and besides, I don't like polls. Speaking engagements have been sparse for some time, so maybe my Contact Page is the epitome of Three Dog Night's hit song "One" and qualifies as "the loneliest number"? For rush hour Bloggers, my Home Page is the most concise. As most Home Pages go, however, it doesn't change much. Truth be told, serious blogging requires a commitment of time. But with a huge debt of gratitude for the readers who visit regularly, I have chosen, again, to keep my Blog Page intact. There is no hard and fast rule for Blogging. And like each of you, when a day or two goes by and I don't have a new post, it's only because I am attending to something I've been neglecting. For instance, it could be I'm visiting a friend after a long absence, visiting an animal adoption shelter, practicing my guitar, working out, or deadlining on a magazine assignment. At the end of the day, my Pastor has the final word about "To Blog or Not To Blog". When I told him, that maybe I should consider options similar to what Mr. Carlin would tell Dr. Hartley about Blogging, he said: "Don't you dare!" Seems like sound advice. So, for now--you're stuck with me. But I'm curious. Have you considered not Blogging anymore? Do tell and share why. Have a nice Monday!

I have certainly considered not blogging anymore. Especially when I've been on holiday and away from the internet for a couple of weeks.
I don't have anywhere near the free time I had when I started and don't feel I'm as amused or amusing either. I think that has something to do with getting old and grumpy. And the polar ice caps melting. And the cost of oil.
But I've gotten so much out of it and truly value the handful of people still reading despite my erratic posts. So I ain't goin nowhere in a hurry. I think.
I miss alot of people who have given it up too. I don't see myself slowing down or quitting unless the job situation changes but I doubt I could ever give it up for good! I hope you don't either!
d-man: To quote a line from the chorus of "Please, Please, Please" performed by James Brown: "Please, please don't go". Your songs are a riot and I can remember choking over coffee one morning when I played "Loves Lamest Lament"! :D)
Morning, Patti: Well, I've noticed these thoughts come often to me when I am quite tired and feel I have too much on my plate. I like to participate in the process, which is quite fun (Like visiting Monogram Queen's Site!) :D)
Bob Newhart's show never came on British tv, though I might have seen clips a couple of times.
I often think of not blogging but then - I end up with another show business story about me and my werid life that I have to tell.
And onward I go.
Hey Michael I hope you had a great weekend - keep up the great work here in your blog.

It hit home for me this week, when another blogger I read mentioned she hadn't been to the beach yet this summer. Neither have I...
I work fulltime, do a comic five or six a week, juggle married life with my online life.
And I haven't been to the beach yet.
I feed off other bloggers. I get inspiration from them. I learn of movies I should see, relationship problems (and successes), different ways to cook, all manner of things. I learn of politics and economics and art.
but I want to go to the beach too. I need to go to the beach. Maybe next week, I'll only do five comics.
Don't you *dare* stop blogging, Michael.
But hugs if you do, and hugs if you don't. It's your life. You do what's right for you. When the time comes to stop doing what you do, you'll know. There won't be any question.
I agree with the other bloggers, though I do not comment every day I do read your blog.
A blogging friend who got me started has kind of laid back, I would miss her terribly if we didn't e-mail thoughts to each other every now and then.
I started my blog to release steam,
it has gotten harder to do now that I know family is checking in.
I have some thoughts right now I would like to get out of my system, but can't because of who reads my posts.
So hang in there Michael, I would miss reading about your world.
I liked Newhart for some reason. it wasn't a great show but somehow comfortable. Yeah, a lot of bloggers have become inactive. I just don't have the time and energy to look for new ones. But nobody's looking for me either so maybe blogging has started to die off. Or maybe just the best of us will remain?
jean-luc picard: Wow, that is amazing. I have seen re-runs of "Doctor in the House" from the U.K. which were done I think a bit earlier than "Are You Being Served?" It was about 4 med school students who pulled hilarious pranks! :D
Glenn: Perhaps it has been a week of weird biorhythms for me or something. But onward it shall be! See you over at your place soon!
Serapahine: You've given me some great perspective here!
Green Tea: Yes, I recall two women who were stalked, and that was so sad. In the end, one had to fold up because her family became unglued regularly. And another actually feared for her safety. They are both missed. Thanks all the more for stopping over here and lol!!:)
Bud: Bob Newhart is a reality check for me. It is fun to see those shows now and then to just escape. I always felt that he and the late Suzanne Pleshette were magic together on that show. With your career taking off, I am always thrilled when you can post! I've decided to remain as well!!
I've considered to end the blogging road. When I get to that point, I take off a few weeks and then I'm back!
I don't post quite as often as I did when I first started blogging almost 3 years ago, but I've never considered just stopping cold turkey.
I think it's all about balance. I need time to live my real life, and that in turn gives me blog fodder and a reason to blog.
My frequency of posting varies with the rhythms of my life, and that's as it should be.

Tanyetta: I've noticed that about you. :)
Diane: xoxoxo!
I have seen alot of bloggers burn out for various reasons but mostly because they let blogging be their main source of entertainment.
It takes on a life of it's own and in the end you loose yourself and fall behind on life until the blog is your life.
I have learned to compromise.
I post every two days or so but wroite longer posts so my readers could read them in their liezure and not rushuing daily through lang blogrolls to keep up.
I read blogs the same way.
Like now, I read all your latest posts in one shot and this way I have various emotions dealing with various subject matters that you have posted.
BTW I liked watching The Bob Newhart show and Newhart.
The last episode when he went to bed with Mary Frann in Vermont and woke up with Suzanne Pleshette in Chicogo was brilliant
Walker: That WAS brilliant and it is sad that Mary died suddenly at such a young age--a beautiful woman and a gifted actress. Of course, it is also sad to consider our world without Suzanne in it. I read that Fraternity houses used to have those dreadful "chug-a-lug" events whenever Suzanne would say "Bob...".
Thank you for reading here Walker. I appreciate your comments and your sense of humor!
Hi - I know I am a sporadic visitor, but I'm glad you decided not to stop blogging. I am at it for a much shorter time than you are and have to admit that while I love it, I also feel somewhat consumed by it in some ways and struggle with guilt when I don't visit other sites enough.
I love the reminder of the Bob Newhart show and wish it was available around here. So far not on any of the channels I get. Newhart is a genius, I think, and I love his wry kind of humor.
Glad you are sticking with it and sorry my visits are not as regular as they might be. I continue to enjoy your closet wordzzles posted at Dianne's.
Raven: No one needs to ever apologize in my view. That any of us have the time to visit all the blog buds that we love is a small miracle. I have finally finished projects that were 7 months behind. But I did get them handled. One day at a time my gifted friend! lol!!!!
