CYCLING!

I never would have imagined one-year ago that I'd be writing this, much less actually doing it. But last night during Wellness, I biked a little over 10 miles at a fast pace. Glenn Bishop's post is also noteworthy, as he too has incorporated a workout regimen in his life and his on-stage performing is better for it. Kudos to Glenn! One of my PT's who is a serious cyclist had me get back onto the recumbent bike and studied my form and knee-foot patterns. We made an adjstment and went to a vertical bike to note a seat setting for tonight's cardio workout. Picked up the car with a new transmission having just been installed, then began at 6 PM. Ended up leaving the workout center at 8:40 PM. If you do this long enough and miss a day, it's like forgetting to brush your teeth!

Wow, good for you Michael!
I felt a bit like you might be after I upped my walking amount to 4-5 miles a day and added aerobic conditioning. I've always been active, but not too vigilant about the aerobics part. Within the last few yrs, but I had found that I was spending a bit too much time standing at my easel, whereas when I teach, I move around. Keep it up, my friend!

I like cycling. But not punctures.
Damn, I've been away so long and missed so much.Very sorry about Gunner. Very sad indeed. I love those phone booths. I have a picture of me in one in York, UK. Have to dig that out for you. Biking! Go Michael!
Hey, shadowsinthemoonlight! lol and great to hear from you!!
Well, in 2000 I read a book by figure skater Peggy Fleming--her bio. I was just curious and yet it was a very interesting story because she has traveled to many of the same places I have. She described a walking program. And I took it up, just like that! Like you, I gradually built up to 5 miles 7 days a week and worked it into every broadcasting job I had before or after a shift, whatever it took. 2007 brought me a huge physical challenge that had been brewing for about two years. So, I've met that challenge with PT-- rebuilding myself better than ever--for life! STAY WITH IT! :)
D-Man: Punctures yes, but accidents too. The guys at PT were debating one night whether they would rather be hit by a car from the back or oncoming. I sided with the guy who said oncoming because I feel that I would rather determine for myself with my steering skills to what degree I get banged up. It was a lively topic!;>
Bud: Yeah! Do mail me a copy. I'll frame it. That has to be FUN!
Yes, we lost Gunner and so many friends of Gunner like me who knew him and loved him are all dealing with this reality in our own way. That wonderful boy really made a difference in lives around the world. As a parent yourself and such an amazing teacher to young people, I know this must resonate with you and Cathy, as Gunner's parents Gus and Janna are teachers too. And good people. We just love them. But right now they need space and time, knowing we are only a phone call away for anything they need--we'll make it happen and get it done.
whoooooooot. so awesome.
stick a girl on the back and start cycling to NY. only a few thousand miles to go. i owe you a beer.
seriously,
you should be very proud.
yourock,
dari
Lots of people around here cycle for exercise, but my knees can't take the pedaling, so I golf. cycling would be much cheaper.
That is great! I like to bike as well but on a stationary one at the gym ;-)
I use to ride a lot--I will occassionally ride my bike to work in the warm months now, but because my left knee has been bothering me in some of my exercises, I've started to ride bikes in the gym and my knee feels better than when running. It's great exercise
As an avid mountain biker, I have to agree. Once you get into it, you become addicted. It's one of the best feelings. And, if you ride on wide, friendly trails, you can meet a lot of really nice people (or some real nasty ones if you aren't courteous!) Good for you. Don't give it up.
p m: Wow! I was sorry to read that your knees present this challenge. I'm very fortunate to have guys around me in PT who are there for me to consult. Last night had its share of positive surprises. Sure hope you have an opportunity where you live to locate a cycling pro who can perhaps give you his/her feedback. I send you HOPE for pleasant possibilities/options. You never know!
Hey Lisa B: It's all inside for now on machines but we measure stats like crazy. Outdoors will come along later, though. Cool that you cycle. I'll bet the weather is very nice where you are!:)
Sage: I relate. I have friends here who run Marathons and friends who do 10K's-which I used to do... A LOT. I'm learning so much now about making adjustments from weeks to months to allow certain issues to work themselves out. But without sacrificing a full workout experience. Quite an enjoyable and interesting journey!
Martini: I hear you! You sound like you have a lot of real-time outdoor experience. Reading your comment allowed me to reflect on some things the guys were discussing last night about mountain biking here. You would dig this place! So far, only one DeLorean sighting! But I'll keep you updated!!
Riding a bike is great exercise and i bet you felt good after.
I haven't in five years and still have my baby downstares begging but my back is not there any more.
Walker: Ouch!
Good for you Michael,
And thanks for the kind words.
Glenn Bishop
Glenn: Stay with it! You can bet I am!
All Best to You, Glenn!
