MORE CHANGES...

"The one that got away"...Thank God!
The only news from the ranch is that we have dismantled the two remaining items from my REEL Page. In recent weeks, we removed my PHOTO Pages to create a fresh, new look in 2009. Both features (as I discussed here previously) felt uncomfortably dated to me and I wanted to apply "Spring Cleaning" early on into the New Year.

Not having my Laptop PC back from the warranty repair shop feels like my old 1972 MGB-GT automobile. I owned it for three months. When it ran, it was a "traffic stopper". An unfortunate irony. Most of the time it sat parked, and was temperamental. If it was too hot or too cold outside, if it had just rained, if the dual carburetors were not synchronized...you name it...it never started.

Recently, at a Holiday Party I told the E-True Story version of one of the last times I had that car out for a drive years ago. I was making a left-hand turn in mid-summer. Directly behind me was a couple in their early seventies who looked like they had just filmed a television commercial for the Lincoln Town Car. The white haired gentleman behind the wheel looked like Bob Barker in a tuxedo, with his attractive wife dressed to "the nines" in an Oscar de la Renta evening gown with high heels. As I let out the clutch to accelerate through the turn, my MG stalled. I could see the couple in my rear-view mirror laughing hysterically in the car behind me. Eventually, the man got out of his Lincoln Town Car and walked up to my driver's door. "We relate", he laughed. "We used to own one of these when we were your age. I'll push you about twenty feet. See if you can kick start it". I kick started the car alright. It ran for about 10 feet before the battery died. You had to be there. I managed to steer the car into a parking lot with a slight uphill grade. The hubby and wife (whom I was convinced mistook North Texas for Beverly Hills), got out of their car--as I did--and the three of us attempted to push the 3,300 pound sports car into a parking spot. Embarrassing? I almost died, it was so bad! I can still remember the man's wife pushing forward with her hands on my car trunk, laughing! (I was attired in cowboy boots, jeans and a T-shirt). I was too livid to accept their sympathetic offer for a ride down the street to my apartment. I thanked the couple profusely and offered to pay them for going "above and beyond the call of duty". But they were having none of it. They drove away (still laughing). This story pretty much sums up my technical difficulties of late with the Laptop PC. Kudos in this regard to "Twitter" at Blogrolling who writes: "This is killing us as much as it is you!" (They've been off-line since early October, so I'm inclined to think they're sincere). Once I'm "back in the game", I'll be around to visit all of you who have left me such warm comments over the Holidays. Looking back over these messages, I am heartened by the sincerity and depth of feeling I've read. What a terrific group of Bloggers I have around me! Please know that I'll stop by for a visit just as soon as my computer issues resolve, and life returns to something resembling a normal routine again! Meanwhile...

And thats why i have three laptops and 2 desk tops, because all of them are sportsters LOL

I had a car i loved that stalled on my periodically and no matter what i did or the mechanic i couldn;t get it to stop until i sold it.
Then i saw the guy who bought it one day and i asked if he had any problems with the Dart and he said only initially but after he changed a small hose coming from the carb it never happened again.
Go figure.

Walker: This car was so bad that electrical shops offered to pay me to stay away, due to the Smith gauges and multiple backup systems! :D)

You are probably destined to meet someone with that car who breaks down or runs out of gas and you'll have to help him/her. Bummer on the computer issues -- hope you get them resolved soon!

I was to happy to see a comment from you on my blog! I was hoping you had your computer issues resolved, but I see from your post that isn't so. Hope you get your laptop fixed soon.

Still looking forward to your new pics for your photo page. :o)

My sister used to have a '66 Ford Galaxy that would quit dead in the middle of the road and refuse to start. Turned out to be a modulator valve one time, and another time it was a vacuum line on the carburetor.

Cars can sure be cantankerous creatures. Ain't it strange how they have personalities??

Have a great week, my friend. :o)

Much Love,

Diane

LOL! What a cool story! I can just the couple and you in contrast to each other pushing and huffing that car along the street. I've had my share of break downs too, and they all stand out in my mind, lol!

Happy New Year Michael :D

You can laugh now about that car,but I bet you weren't back then :D
I had planned on getting a laptop and right now you are discouraging me.
My tech skills are so limited I don't know if I want another headache.

Sending you a big Hug !!

Well bless their hearts - i'm glad they helped you Michael! That's sweet.

I had a very temperamental Karmin Ghia so I can relate!

I hope your computer is back to health soon and runs longer than that old MG... Funny story, we never know who will help us along the way.

Hello Michael,

A truly beautiful car; too bad it was such a traffic stopper. I always feel life only gets better, thank goodness for a fresh start along with new beginnings. Best wishes for a Happy New Year.

I relate to that Michael - computers are very much like cars in my opinion. When they work they are great if they don't work they are the most (fill in the blank) toys in the world.

I hope you have a great new year Michael.

Becky: Actually, two brothers who own storage warehouses across the country had this big desire to restore a 1972 MGB GT. They flew in from Wisconsin to buy mine and one of them thought he could fly home commercially while his brother drove the car back. It was hard not to bust out laughing at his optimism. They had it taken by flatbed to Wisconsin, restored it, sent me slides afterwards and then sold it. So, I may run into the "new' owners afterall! I'll keep ya posted! :D)

Hey, Carolyn!: They were very nice people and I still laugh about that hot afternoon from MG Hell! I did take it to a race track before I turned it over to the new owners and safely took it up to 106 MPH. One last fun with the car...Love your new photo! Be by soon! :)

Dari: For the record, it left me stranded 16 times in 3 months. I really tried to make this car relationship work. I don't think the car was very committed...:D)

Love to you and BF in NYC!

Green Tea: You're right, it wasn't that funny back then. It's one of those "What the hell was I thinking?" lessons. About the Laptop...sorry to discourage. I blame much of this on Vista--an operating system that is just awful. I'll never understand why they replaced XP Home and XP Office. But DO seek out some friends on advice for a Laptop. lol!!!:)

Evening, Patti! Well, one of my brothers had a Ghia and I liked it. The turning radius was very limited, though! Remember? :D)

Sage: TRUE! With my cell phone in recent years I've saved 3 lives so Good Deeds DO come back, yes! Thanks for the good wishes on the Laptop.

Glenn: The repair guys showed me what a hard drive looks like and launched into a tutorial on the "Mean Time Breakdown Period" for these things...As you may have guessed, I'm extending the Warranty! Hope your New Year is filled with many gigs, Glenn. You are a Class Act! :)

Anyone who's driven for any length of time have stories to tell about the car from hell. I worked with a lady here (now retired) who had a little MG like that one, not sure the same year. She was so proud of it, then one day she came in all cracked up. She went to the grocery store bought a months worth of groceries and walking out remembered she had driven the MG instead of their bigger car. All she would say is, "You have no idea where we had to put all the stuff to get it home."
Hope you get back to normal with the 'puter soon.

PM: The logistics of getting it from Point A to Point B have been handled. Now it's a waiting game! The lady must have had a standard MG or "Midget". They were smart looking cars. But as the old saw goes..."beneath the looks lurks a personality" and these cars just didn't like us as much as we admired them. Thanks for the good word, my friend!
