As I was assembling this BLOG Post, Ed McMahon died. God Bless him. Our country has changed. Long before we had phrases like "Deal with it", "We're not on the same page", "Whatever?", "Starter marriages", and "Collateral Damage", we had some modicum of normalcy. These photos remind me of better times, and they rekindle my hope that maybe we can at least try to get this feeling back again...someday.

Michael, these are wonderful things of our past that make up so much of how our future was shaped aren't they? We remember them fondly, but we still use their catch phrases, their puns, those movies... all to stir us on in the here and now. I really love when you do these Americana sort of posts, lol!
Oh, and hats off to Ed McMahon for giving us "Heeeeeer's Johnny!" and so much more :)
Great Post Michael.
For me I would add Ed Sullivan, Orson Wells, Merv Griffen, Jack Benny and the list would go on and on.
Thanks for a great post.

Carolyn: The world is basically nuts and these are "reality checks" for me. lol and (((HUGS))) to you. I am way overdue for a visit and will be by. xoxo! :D
Glenn: YES! I originally had a photo of the lovely Sharon Tate who held so much promise, sensitivity and sweetness for our world. But ultimately, it was too sad for me to post. Sharon was special from everything I read about her personality and the few interviews she did.
When I dined with the late June Allyson years ago, she talked quite a bit about her neighbor, Merv Griffin. Merv was such a pioneer in television and in business.
Ed Sullivan actually took The Beatles to Catholic Mass and Jack Benny was allegedly the only person Johnny Carson broke down and wept over when he died. Of course, I was always a fan of Orson Welles. As Merv said: "A man for whom talk shows were created". I will make sure they are all represented here thanks to your fine suggestion. YOU ROCK, Glenn! :)
i'm not sure there ever is a normalcy. only touchpoints or markers, like breadcrumbs from the story of hansel and gretel, which help us make sense of our existence by adding direction and perspective to our otherwise lost lives.
Seraphine: You have a beautiful way of capturing this reality. My personal internal compass says that unfortunately, we are living in times that lack significant meaning. It's up to each of us to "turn the key" and make it right again. lol! :)
A fine collection of icons there, Michael. RIP Ed McMahon.
Doc Severinsen is the only one left from those thirty years.
Longevity does have its rewards.
P M: Yes, I remember Ed Shaughnessy and Tommy Newsome. What a cast!
Indeed it's sad when an icon passes. Ed could sell anything, couldn't he! I bet he's working on a sales pitch right now up there in the sky.
ed mcmahon had a great voice and he had a great laugh.
Martini: Yes, he was a good guy!
Seraphine: You actually made me laugh because I recalled those "off camera" laughs from Ed during Johnny's monologues. "Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" He will be missed by many.
Great post!!
Angel: Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words! :)
Love this post..
Friends always told me they thought my daughter resembled Natalie Wood,
a little bit guess..
Green tea: Yes, Natalie was a beautiful lady. I enjoy her performances immensely.
